1 Peter 1:13 – Maintain Your Hope

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; ” (1 Peter 1:13, NKJV)

Notes for 1 Peter 1:13 – Maintain your Hope

The Basic Outline for this Study is as follows

Therefore…

  • At this verse, turns from amazing truth to application.  Because of our heavenly hope, purposeful existence, and relationship w/Jesus

Rest Confidence fully upon

  • This is the only verb in the sentence, rest flows off of this, explains this and how to have this – solid rest, confidence on 2nd coming.

Ready Mind – Active Thought On

  • Calls us to have our minds continually focused, actively on this

Uninhibited, having Self-Control

  • Calls us to not let anything hinder us from focusing on this

Contrast: Living like Abraham or Lot?

1Peter 1:8-12

whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls. Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into. (1 Peter 1:8-12)

1 Peter 1:6-7 – Now…Trials

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, (1 Peter 1:6-7)

Notes for 1 Peter 1:6-7

The Basic Outline for this Study is as follows

Intro – Deep calls unto Deep..what does it mean when we sing?  Taken from Ps 42 Picture of trials – bowling us over one after the next….do you know the feeling? Trials…are the subject of our study this morning

Catching up with Context

  • 1 Peter 1:3-5 – Our amazing living hope in Heaven….of heaven
  • In this hope – we greatly rejoice – in our heavenly hope
  • Now…until heaven…different story
  • Various trials – of all shapes, sizes, kids and more….true
In 1 Peter 1:6-7, we learn this about the trials now….
1)Our Trials are Brief
•Limited in this life.  Often come in seasons…and next to eternity – nothing
•In Trial today?  This will pass…it will pass…only a little while
2)Our Trials are Needed
•Never would God allow us to face trials unnecessarily, without purpose
•What purpose?  Here does not say….in Scripture – dozens of purposes
•Help us, purify us, discipline, protect, for self, for others…for God…and more
•Yet the simple point here….is if we are in a trial – has purpose
3)Our Trials are Painful
•As talk about limited and purposeful trials – cannot mistake or make light
•Trials hurt…we experience all the pain  non Christians do…and more
•Are you grieved by Trials – don’t be disheartened…normal, right
4)Our Trials are Proving
•Like Gold that is purified
•Validates our faith.  Great love to us that God does – saved…and unsaved
•Declares our faith.  It is through Trials our faith is best broadcast

5)   Our Trials are Good

  • Working good in us…like refining of Gold – bringing value, worth
  • Can be pleasing to the Lord.  If we face trials right, earn for us blessing
  • When we see God…hear His pleasure – lived well…like Him

1 Peter 1:3-5 – A Living Hope

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:3-5)

Notes for 1 Peter 1:3-5 – A Living Hope

Intro – Hope….what is it?  A Living Hope? (alive, with you, talking to you and more)

-  Contrast a stuffed animal verse a living dog, a mannequin verses a living person – consider a living hope

1)a Privileged Living Hope
•Exclusively for Christians – focus on the word “born again” in the passage
•Expectancy for Heaven – the hope is a hope of heaven
•Effectively for Living Now – though looking forward to heaven – the hope is now!
2)a God given Living Hope
•Bless God – all of Him!
•His Heart – Abundant Mercy
•His Work – Begotten us again
•His Power– Resurrection of Jesus
•His Supply –His Inheritance
3)a Victorious Living Hope
Incorruptible
• – never ending, never diminishing
Undefiled
• – never messed up, never polluted
Does not Fade
- never old, never boring, never dull
4)a Rock Solid Living Hope
•a Place Reserved  – holding it for us
• a People Kept by God – bringing us there!
• a Time Ready to be Revealed

Hebrews 13:20-25

Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. And I appeal to you, brethren, bear with the word of exhortation, for I have written to you in few words. Know that our brother Timothy has been set free, with whom I shall see you if he comes shortly. Greet all those who rule over you, and all the saints. Those from Italy greet you. Grace be with you all. Amen. (Hebrews 13:20-25)

Leviticus 23, John 14

Today, we take time to review the Fall Feasts that God prescribed for the nation of Israel and the prophetic picture that they are for us….they are the feasts of “ingathering”….and picture for us Jesus In-Gathering us…gathering us in to Himself, to be with Him.

Hebrews 13:17-19

Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. Pray for us; for we are confident that we have a good conscience, in all things desiring to live honorably. But I especially urge you to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner. (Hebrews 13:17-19)
